Farewell Clem!

The end of a chapter…

If you have been to any Kiffness shows for the past 2 years you will have become familiar with my slightly more bearded & super talented band mate Clem on the synths & sax. Clem has been instrumental (excuse the pun) in the success of The Kiffness over the past two years – his contributions both on stage & in the studio have been nothing short of exceptional.

Earlier this year Clem made an executive decision to move to Johannesburg to focus his energies on his own band, TheCity. If anyone has heard TheCity you will know that they are one of the raddest bands around & I know that they will do great things in Jo’burg. On top of that, Clem has taken on the position of Musical Director for our friend & rising star, Tresor – who is also based up in JHB. Since the success of our collaboration “Evergreen” last year, Clem & myself have had the privilege of working quite closely with Tresor in studio leading up to the release of his new album. It was amazing to see Clem thrive in the studio – Tresor’s vibe just clicked with him & the quality of music that was coming out of our studio sessions really was quite mind-blowing. Being in studio for that week we had together, I know that Clem will take Tresor’s show from strength to strength. With the move & with a shift in focus, it made sense for Clem & myself to part ways as it became too difficult to co-ordinate stuff with a bandmate living in a different city. I wish him nothing but the best for his future endeavours & I know he will move on to do great things both with his band & with Tresor.

While I am sad to be parting ways, I am very happy to announce that my long time friend & collaborator Raiven Hunter will be stepping in for Clem for the next foreseeable future. If you’ve been to any Kiffness shows this year you may have noticed that Raiven has already played a couple of shows with me. I feel incredibly lucky to have a new band mate who has been able to pick up the music so quickly & keep the momentum of the live shows in full swing. I really look forward to working with Raiven, and feel very lucky that I can work with a friend & not have to go through the mission of audition random people I don’t know.

Moving forward I’ll also be doing a few solo shows as The Kiffness (DJ SET) as well as shows with long time friends and collaborators Mathew Gold and other featured artists.

I will be playing my last 2 shows with Clem on the 1st of April (no this is not an April Fools prank) at Corona SunSets Festival – Johannesburg & Hard Rock Cafe Pretoria Live. Hope to see you there!
