We are very proud to announce the video for our new single “You Say You Love Me”
When we filmed the music video for the song, we wanted to create something not only fun & different but also something that would be empowering to the Cape Town LGBT community.
Manila von Teez, a popular drag queen and regular performer at a number of Green Point nightclubs in Cape Town, was the perfect star for the video. Along with her two backup dancers Maxine Wild & Jayde Kay Johnson, we were completely blown away by Manila’s professionalism and the passion she put into her performance.
We could not be more proud of how the video came out and we are humbled by the overwhelming support the video has already received through the premiere on TRACE TV.
When filming wrapped we received news that there had been a tragic shooting in an Orlando nightclub targeting the LGBT community. Having just returned from creating a video celebrating the LGBT community, the news hit close to home and we were devastated. We all agreed it would be remiss of us to not dedicate the video to those who had lost their lives in the shooting.
The opening words of the song “You say you love me, but you don’t” ring true for many people who feel they have to pretend to be someone else for fear of what society may think of them if they were to reveal their true selves. Our hope is that this song and video encourages and empowers not only the LGBT community but anyone who feels ostracised for who they truly are. We challenge you to never be ashamed, and to always be proud of who you are.
I’ll end with a quote from Kurt Cobain: “I would rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not.”
