Background:
The video of Rushawn singing Jermaine Edwards song in his classroom was shot over 6 years ago. Fast forward to today, the video has resurfaced on Instagram & Tiktok & that’s when I started getting messages from fans to remix the video.
At this point, all I knew was that the boy’s name was Rushawn. I always try my best to reach out to the people I collaborate with before putting these videos out, but despite my best efforts I couldn’t get hold of Rushawn beforehand. But with the power of my friends on the internet, I was soon able to connect with him soon after putting the video out.
Soon after putting the video out, I came to know that the song was actually written by a Jamaican gospel artist, Jermaine Edwards. We were in touch soon after the video started going viral and we were able to negotiate a way forward with releasing the song officially. Jermaine has been a great guy to work with, and he’s been helping Rushawn through the whole process of setting up accounts for his royalties & getting him signed up with the relevant royalty collection agencies in Jamaica. It gives me great pleasure in knowing that this song will empower Rushawn in whatever he chooses to pursue in life going forward.
At the end of the day, I’m just glad to be part of something with such a pure and positive message, a message that we should all be grateful for each day despite what our circumstances may be. I’m a firm believer in the idea that an attitude of gratitude will determine your altitude. If you stay humble & give thanks to the Lord for each day, he will bless you in good times & give you peace in troubled times.
James 1:2-4 NIV
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
Amazing! Mega props to you, Rushawn and Jermaine, a brilliant track.
